EXTRA CREDIT 25'/26'

​🎤 Extra Credit for Private Music Study

Students who take private voice lessons or instrumental lessons outside of school can earn extra credit in music class.

Participating in lessons demonstrates dedication to developing musical skills beyond the classroom and supports continued growth as a performer.

To receive credit, students must provide a letter from their music teacher or the music school stating that they are currently taking lessons with them or at their facility.

​This opportunity encourages students to continue building their musical talent and apply what they learn in lessons to their school music studies.



🎶 Music Class Extra Credit Opportunity

Instructor: Mrs. Tanya Murphy, Music Teacher

Students can earn extra credit (up to the equivalent of a test grade) by attending an approved cultural or musical event outside of school.

✅ Approved Events May Include:

a. Orchestra or symphony performances
b. Jazz ensemble or big band concerts
c. Chamber music or string quartet recitals
d. Choir or vocal ensemble concerts
e. Musical theatre or opera performances
f. Dance performances with live music
g.Cultural festivals featuring traditional or world music
i. College or community music department concerts
j. Museum exhibits related to music or instruments

(Please note: Commercial pop concerts such as Beyoncé, Drake, etc. do not qualify for this extra credit opportunity.)


📸 What You Need to Do:
​

1. Take a selfie before the concert or performance (alone or with family/friends) — include the
    program or flyer in your photo.
2. Email the picture to Ms. Murphy at [email protected].
3. Bring the program, flyer, or ticket stub to school as proof of attendance.


💯 Extra Credit Value:
​

Students who complete all steps will receive up to the equivalent of a test grade for their participation and effort in experiencing live music and culture.

🎻 Extra Credit for Choir and String Ensemble Participation

Students who participate in the String Program—learning to play the violin, viola, cello, or
bass
—can receive extra credit in music class.

Participation in the String Ensemble is by selection only and students are chosen by Mrs. Murphy.

​Students who sing in the Choir will also receive extra credit. Those interested in joining the Choir must audition for placement.

Both Choir and String Ensemble are pull-out classes that take place during the school day.
To remain eligible for participation and extra credit, students must:

     a. Maintain passing grades in their regular classes
     b. Demonstrate good behavior in all classes

These programs give students the opportunity to develop their musical skills, perform in ensembles, and earn recognition for their commitment to music.

🎭 Extra Credit for School Performances 

Students who participate in school productions, such as the Winter Show or the Black History Program, will receive extra credit in music class.
  • ​
  •      a. Lower School (K–5th grade): Participation is by class.
  •      b. Middle School (6th–8th grade): Students must be selected by Mrs. Murphy to
  •          participate. To remain eligible, middle school students must have good behavior and
  •          at least a C average in music class.

Participation in these performances demonstrates dedication, teamwork, and a commitment to the arts. Students contribute their time and talent to create meaningful school events that celebrate music, culture, and community. Extra credit will be awarded to students who actively take part in rehearsals and performances as singers, instrumentalists, actors, or stage crew members.
