Welcome
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2019/2020 school year at Discovery Charter School. My name is Tanya Murphy, I am a professional musician and I have over 20 years of experience as a Music Teacher. I am looking forward to an exciting year. It is my goal to provide all students with an educationally challenging, yet fun, experience in my classroom. I would also like to help students realize their full potential and raise their self-esteems through musical activities. Please impress upon your child to be on their best behavior and have on their best listening ears. Music class grades are based on a student's Class Participation, Homework, Test/Quiz/Projects & Performance. Children will have the opportunity to succeed at their own level. Students will participate in a variety of activities: singing, listening, movement activities, playing string & percussive instruments & Concert Etiquette. Written activities are limited. Other units covered will be music theory, music appreciation, music literature and seasonal music. Kindergarten thru 4th grade emphasis will be on Music & Literature and learning the instruments of the Orchestra. Please take advantage of the concert opportunities listed (i.e Philadelphia Orchestra etc) to help enhance your child's musical experience. I believe that music and all the arts improve the quality of life. I want students to be able to participate in musical activities at some level, regardless of formal training. I want students to know that they can make music a part of their lives, now and in the future. Musically Yours, Mrs. Tanya Murphy, Music Teacher |

Music Mission Statement
I do believe that children are our future and that all children have the potential to achieve. It is my nature and philosophy to look for the best in students, and to do whatever is necessary to help them to perform to their fullest potential. I want to develop the love of making music in as many students as possible, by using as many musical outlets as possible, and to foster lifelong connections with music. I pride myself in being a music educator and mentor who mold the minds of children of today so that they may become musicians of tomorrow.
